Training on beekeeping methods were given by Turkish experts in Ngaoundere and Babungo regions that are 800 and 450 km’s away from the capital Younde located in the north eastern Cameroon with Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency’s contributions and Turkish Embassy in Yaounde’s initiatives.

Beekeeping Research Station Manager Feyzullah Konak, Agricultural Engineer Ahmet Kuvancı and Veterinarian Hasan conducted a hands-on training workshop on beekeeping methods in Ngaoundere and Babungo regions that are 800 and 450 km’s away from the capital Younde located in the north eastern Cameroon with Turkish Embassy in Yaounde’s initiatives.

The workshop which was followed with interest by the citizens lasted 10 days. A total of 40 people, including 6 women participated in the workshop that was conducted in Ngaoundere region, whereas the workshop that was conducted in Babungo region was attended by 35 people including 4 women. All participants in both regions attended the workshop with considerable interest and showed interactive participation.

The beekeeping equipment transported from Turkey within the bounds of possibility and dismantled hives were mounted on the site in scope of the workshop. Samples were left in training centers in both regions.

The majority of the people in Ngaoundere region make a living by agriculture. In this context beekeeping occupies an important place in agricultural activities. In the region that is very suitable for beekeeping in terms flora, the workshop that was given in order to reinforce the technical knowledge of beekeepers were highly welcomed.

The non-usage of pesticides and drugs used against bee diseases and pests contributes the quality of the honey positively in the region. The quality of the product is equal to “organic honey” level in Turkish standards. However lack of technical equipment and information during production and especially packaging and storage processes affects the honey quality negatively.

Turkey has an important place in beekeeping around the world in terms of number of colonies, honey production and the use of technology. In this context, the beekeeping in the regions is aimed to quickly develop with technical support and equipment supply on beekeeping provided by TIKA to honey production cooperatives in Cameroon.
