Works Commenced For Water Well Drilling In Mauritania

Project starts as of March for Water Well Drilling in Mauritania under the West African Access to Clean Drinking Water Programme by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) in Cooperation with the Turkish General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI).

TIKA’s activities continue for access to clean water in the countries of action. In this context, TIKA and DSI cooperate in drilling water wells in the West Africa starting with Niger, Burkina Faso, then Mali and Mauritania. Under the protocol between TIKA and the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Mauritania, 60 water wells will be drilled in Ayoun El-Etrouss province in distress of water shortage in the southeastern part of the country.

Last month, TIKA and DSI teams completed their preparatory works in Mauritania, and the DSI technical team arrived in the area where wells would be drilled. For the inauguration of the first water well, a ceremony was held at Ayoun city and attended by Turkish Ambassador at Nouakchott Musa Kulaklıkaya and the officials from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Mauritania and Ayoun El-Etrouss province. Mauritanian officials expressed gratitude to TIKA and DSI for the assistance.

The water well drilling in Mauritania is scheduled to complete by the end of July.
