Water Wells Are To Be Drilled In Mauritania

30 water wells will be drilled in Mauritania within the scope of the West Africa Access to Drinking Water Project being conducted through cooperation between the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency Directorate and the General Directorate for State Hydraulic Works.
In a number of different regions in the world and especially in Africa, the geographical conditions, long periods of drought, lack of infrastructure and social – political instability make it difficult for people to access clean and health drinking water. When economic problems are added to these, access to clean water becomes a serious problem for people. The subject of water supply and access to clean drinking water constitutes one of the most important issues for the development aid sector. In this context TİKA literally gives life to communities with the water wells it has provided in Africa.

Following the drilling of 30 water wells in Mali, TİKA and the General Directorate for State Hydraulic Works is planning to drill 30 more wells in Mauritania in the scope of the “West Africa Access to Drinking Water Project”. The boring machine and equipment belonging to the General Directorate for State Hydraulic Works were transported by TİKA and State Hydraulic Works experts to Ayoun El-Atrouss in Mauritania from Bamako, the capital city of Mali by land before the Sacrificial Festivities Holiday.

While 30 water wells are planned to be drilled around the city of Ayoun El-Atrouss in Mauritania during the first stage, additional wells are also projected to be drilled in other regions of Mauritania which are in need of drinking water. The wells in Mauritania are planned to be started before 2014.
