Türkiye Shares Its Experience in Maternal and Child Health with Uzbekistan

With the project initiated by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) for maternal and child health in Uzbekistan, 40 domestically produced newborn light therapy – phototherapy devices were delivered to health units serving in 14 regions of the country to be used in maternity homes and perinatal centers.

Since 2008, TİKA has implemented many projects in Uzbekistan, the largest country in Central Asia with its population of 34 million, to improve the health infrastructure and to provide health services more effectively. In this direction, Uzbekistan-Türkiye health weeks held between 2008-2018, grant of 50 fully equipped ambulances in 2018, 90 incubators, 30 ventilation devices, 110 monitors, 110 infusion pumps, 7 transfer incubators, 10 radiant heated beds for the neonatal units of birth centers across the country to reach a more modern structure, medical equipment support to the Innovative Medicine National Center affiliated to the Council of Ministers of Uzbekistan within the scope of the fight against Covid-19 pandemic are some of these projects.

The phototherapy device used in the treatment of skin jaundice in newborn babies serves to reduce the treatment time and the amount of infusion treatment in newborns with jaundice, and to protect the newborn's body from adverse reactions.

In Uzbekistan, which attaches great importance to the field of maternal and child health, according to the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on “Strengthening Maternal and Child Health between 2022-2026”, prevention of maternal-child diseases, providing quality medical services to patients, renovation of the current 227 maternity hospitals and perinatal centers in 46 districts in the country and equipping them with the needed medical devices are stipulated.
