28 September 2018Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Binali Yıldırım in Uzbekistan
Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Binali Yıldırım participated in the ceremony organized by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) for the delivery of 50 ambulances and 20 mobile office vehicles.
Expressing his appreciation to be the first Turkish Parliamentary Speaker to visit Uzbekistan in a long time in his speech at the ceremony, Yıldırım said, “We are the descendants of the same nation. For us, Ankara and Tashkent are equal. Samarkand is like Bursa. Bukhara is similar to Konya. Although you are in Uzbekistan, the pearl of Asia, and we are in Anatolia, our kinship always continued, and our relations have never ended. That's why we have felt at home from the moment we came to Tashkent. I invite everyone who wants to see the elegance, aesthetics and kindness of our millennial civilization in Uzbekistan. They should take a coffee break in Khiva, contemplate in Bukhara and sit back and relax in Samarkand.”
Reminding that Turkey was the first country to open an embassy in Uzbekistan which declared its independence in 1991 and that relations between the two countries reached strategic partnership level recently, Yıldırım pointed that their target is to increase bilateral trade volume to $2 billion this year, adding that this was not enough and the bilateral trade volume between Turkey and Uzbekistan, which has 81 million and 33 million population respectively, should be at least $5 billion. Stating that Uzbekistan is going through a great improvement and development process under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkey is ready to take part in all kinds of endeavors to increase the peace and prosperity of Uzbek people, Yıldırım said, “We fully support the development mobilization that Uzbekistan has started in economic and social areas, because Uzbekistan's wealth is our wealth, Uzbekistan's peace is our peace.”
“We share a common fate, we are the descendants of the same ancestry”
Stating that TİKA, one of the organizations that contribute to the development of Uzbekistan, opened one of its organizations outside Turkey in Uzbekistan right after its establishment, Yıldırım said TİKA carried out hundreds of projects in Uzbekistan between 2002-2017. Noting that the application of mobile offices which will provide services such as notary, heritage and deed to the residents in the villages of Uzbekistan which cover an area of 450 thousand sqkm, will fill a significant deficiency, Yıldırım said they will also continue to support and share experiences with Uzbekistan in terms of health. Yıldırım pointed out that Turkey contributes to the treatment of Uzbek patients by organizing "Health Weeks" in Uzbekistan and thanked TİKA President and his team for putting this project into practice. Yıldırım said, “We share a common fate. We are the descendants of the same ancestry. We share language, history, religion, culture. We're like fingers tied to a wrist under separate flags. The more we improve our relations, the stronger we become.”
“Medical Examination for 10 million People in a Year”
TİKA Tashkent Program Coordinator Ali İhsan Çağlar said that the ambulances will allow 10 million people to be examined annually and mobile offices will provide service for 250 thousand citizens. Stating that relations between the two countries developed rapidly in recent years, Turkish Ambassador to Tashkent Ahmet Başar Şen said foreign trade volume increased by 20 percent in 2017 and by 30 percent in the first half of 2018. Reminding that the friendship and brotherhood relations of Uzbek and Turkish people go a long way back, Uzbek Minister of Health Alisher Shadmanov said the relations between the two countries started to develop rapidly in recent years.
Shadmanov thanked the people and government of Turkey for their support. Yıldırım then handed over the keys of ambulances and mobile offices to Uzbek officials. After the ceremony, Turkish Parliamentary Speaker Yıldırım came together with Turkish businessmen in Uzbekistan in a business dinner and listened to their problems.
