28 March 2018TİKA will reconstruct the Parliament Building in Somalia
The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) will reconstruct the Parliament Building in Somalia, which has been damaged due to civil war. TİKA will soon initiate the construction of a temporary parliament building for Somalian MPs before constructing the main parliament building.
Before initiating the construction of the temporary parliament building, a protocol regarding the activities to take place within the scope of the project was signed. The protocol signing ceremony held in the capital Mogadishu was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari, Turkey's Ambassador to Mogadishu Olgan Bekar, and TİKA's Mogadishu Program Coordinator Galip Yılmaz.
During his speech at the ceremony, Jawari expressed that the new building would consist of 7 floors and that sessions and other parliamentary activities would initially take place in the first two floors to be constructed. Mohamed Osman Jawari praised the Turkish government and people for the assistance they had provided to Somalia. Expressing that the construction of the Somali Parliament's main building was among TİKA's most significant projects this year, Ambassador Bekar stated that Turkey aimed to enable Somalia to regain its prior strength and international position by providing assistance.
TİKA's Mogadishu Coordinator Galip Yılmaz highlighted that TİKA would do everything in its power to complete the project as soon as possible. Once the construction of the temporary parliament building is completed, the construction of the main parliament building will be initiated.
