TİKA Supports the Educational and Scientific Infrastructure of Mongolia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) renovated and equipped the Native Language and Literature Archives and Laboratory at the Institute of Language and Literature at the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, the Folk Music Classroom at Mongolian Children’s Palace, and the Technology Laboratory at Ataturk School in Mongolia.

Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Vice President of TİKA, attended the opening ceremony held for the projects in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia.

The project held by TİKA contributed to the proper preservation and promotion of invaluable cultural heritage elements, especially a total of 1,205 traditional Mongolian scriptures, 6,689 Tibetan scriptures, 1,257 Mongolian scriptures, 450 folders including nearly 100,000 pages of manuscripts, stories, fables, songs, praise texts, and narrative texts about Shamanism, Buddhism, and customs and traditions compiled by a field team, and 1,066 magnetic tapes of nearly 1,200 hours. In his speech at the opening ceremony, Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Vice President of TİKA, underlined the importance of preserving the historical and cultural heritage of our Mongolian brothers and sisters, who protect our ancestral homeland. He thanked those who contributed to this meaningful project.

Built in 1958 to ensure that children spend their spare time efficiently, to improve their skills, and to help them choose the right professions, Mongolian Children’s Palace offers courses in 66 fields, such as arts, painting, creativity, drama, theatre, music, dance, and foreign language learning. The project implemented by TİKA in 2021 for the renovation and equipping of the Folk Music Classroom at Mongolian Children’s Palace helped children learn about their own customs and traditions and improve their musical abilities and contributed to the preservation of Mongolian customs and traditions. A total of 120 students benefit from the project.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Vice President of TİKA, stressed that music is a universal language and that he was pleased with this project, as it helped children learn about their folk music, culture, customs, and traditions in Mongolia, while the world is moving towards a uniform music culture. Baatarkhuu Ichinnorov, Head of the Social Policy Department of the Governor's Office of Ulaanbaatar, praised TİKA’s projects in Mongolia, and said, “We are grateful to the Turkish people and TİKA for implementing such a meaningful project for Mongolian children.”

Located on Ankara Street, one of the busiest streets in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, Ataturk School was founded as Ulaanbaatar School No. 5 in 1939. The school was renamed Ataturk School No. 5 in 2007 under the relevant Decree of the Council of Ministers of Mongolia. As part of the project for the renovation and equipping of the Technology Laboratories at Ataturk School, 2 classrooms were renovated, and technical equipment and materials were provided for technology courses and extracurricular courses, such as design, drawing, model aircraft, ship, and car, and robotics. A total of 750 students will benefit from the project.

In his speech at the opening ceremony held at Ataturk School, Dr. Ümit Naci Yorulmaz, Vice President of TİKA, noted that Ataturk School is an important educational institution and that since 2007, TİKA had implemented projects for the installation of a bust of Ataturk in front of Ataturk School, the landscaping of the schoolyard, the establishment of a computer lab, the renovation and stone cladding of the façade, the renovation and equipping of the cultural center and the gym, the training of parents and students on various subjects, and the participation of students and teachers at the events held in Türkiye on the occasion of National Sovereignty and Children's Day, celebrated on April 23. He added that the Agency would continue to implement such projects and that he was happy to attend the opening ceremony held for the Project for the Renovation and Equipping of Technology Laboratories at Ataturk School.

Zafer Ateş, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Ulaanbaatar, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony and said, “Mongolia is our friend, and Ataturk School is the apple of our eye. As Türkiye, we do our best within the scope of this friendship and solidarity.” Batsumberel Natsagdorj, Mayor of Chingeltei, also delivered a speech and expressed his gratitude to TİKA for creating a learning environment with modern equipment for children, who are the future of the country. He said that he was happy to attend the opening ceremony of such a wonderful and meaningful project, and promised that the engineers of the future would be trained at Ataturk School.
