TİKA Supports Renewable Energy Sources in Algeria

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) established a solar energy, wind energy, and PLC laboratories within the Cherchell Vocational Training Center, located in Tipaza Province, Algeria.

Turkish-made equipment will be used in the laboratories established within the Cherchell Vocational Training Center in Tipaza, affiliated with the Ministry of Vocational Training of Algeria, as part of TİKA’s Vocational Training and Employment Programs (MESİP). In addition, 19 Algerian specialists were given on-site training by 3 specialists from Turkey.

The laboratories were opened with a ceremony attended by Prof. Yacine Merabi, Minister of Vocational Training of Algeria; Prof. Benattou Ziane, Minister of Renewable Energy; Ahmed Maabed, Governor of Tipaza; Dr. Alparslan Çevik, TİKA's Coordinator; and Burcu Demirdügen, First Secretary of the Turkish Embassy in Algeria.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Prof. Yacine Merabi, Minister of Vocational Training of Algeria, thanked the Republic of Turkey and TİKA for the laboratories and stated that the relations between the two countries were centuries old and that the sharing of experience between these sister countries should increase. Merabi noted that they wanted Algerian specialists to be trained in renewable energy in Turkey. He reminded that masks and protective clothing were produced at the workshops of the Ministry of Vocational Training using the materials provided by TİKA, and thanked the Agency for its support during those difficult times. Minister Merabi added that they wanted to benefit from Turkey’s experience in business.

Dr. Alparslan Çevik, TİKA's Algeria Coordinator, noted that the laboratories established in Cherchell, which has an important place in the shared history of these two countries, would be an important step towards introducing Algerian specialists to innovations in the field of renewable energy and meeting Algeria’s need for skilled workforce in this field. Çevik stated that TİKA was ready for cooperation in every field related to vocational training.

At the opening ceremony, a protocol for cooperation was signed between the Center for Scientific Research of Algeria and the Ministry of Vocational Training of Algeria for the effective use of the laboratories.
