TİKA Supports People with Disabilities in the TRNC

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) helped 400 people with disabilities in the TRNC through the TRNC Solidarity Association for the Physically Disabled.

TİKA’s Nicosia Program Office provided adult and baby diapers to people with disabilities having difficulty procuring these products due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). TİKA’s Nicosia Program Office Coordinator Havva Pınar Özcan Küçükçavuş delivered the diapers provided for adults and children with disabilities to Ömer Suay, Chairman of the TRNC Solidarity Association for the Physically Disabled.

Turkey’s Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri also attended the delivery. The diapers will be distributed to 400 people with disabilities in Nicosia, Kyrenia, Famagusta, and Morphou.

– “TİKA will endeavor to reach everyone who needs them in the TRNC”

Reminding that TİKA’s Nicosia Office was officially inaugurated on December 16, Ambassador Başçeri noted that this activity was the first concrete contribution of TİKA’s Nicosia Office to the TRNC. Başçeri thanked the entire staff of TİKA’s Nicosia Office for quickly implementing the project proposed by the TRNC Solidarity Association for the Physically Disabled. He said the activities that TİKA would carry out on the Island would be new indicators of the strong ties between Turkey and the TRNC. Underlining that TİKA’s activities in the TRNC would continue increasingly, Başçeri said, “TİKA will endeavor to reach everyone who needs them in the TRNC. As the Embassy, we will always be there for TİKA.”

Chairman of the Association Suay stated that they endeavor to regularly meet the needs of many people with disabilities in need in the TRNC, such as adult diapers, patient beds, and electric wheelchairs. Noting that the COVID-19 outbreak constitutes a serious obstacle to their activities, Suay said, “This contribution made me, the association, and the disabled community extremely happy. I would like to thank the relevant institutions.”

TİKA’s Nicosia Program Office Coordinator Küçükçavuş stated that all groups and individuals face certain difficulties during the fight against COVID-19. Stressing that people with disabilities are among the main groups who face great difficulties, Küçükçavuş said that TİKA prioritized such projects during the fight against COVID-19 in all countries where it is active.
