TİKA Supports Nigerien Female Farmers

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) built a poultry farm in the village of Bangou Banda near Niamey, the capital of Niger.

TİKA continues to develop projects to improve women’s economic and social participation in Niger, a landlocked country where the majority of the population depends on agriculture and animal husbandry for their livelihood. TİKA had previously built a poultry farm in the village of Gorou Banda. The Agency built another poultry farm, this time in the village of Bangou Banda.

An increase in production capacity is anticipated

As part of the project, TİKA built a modern chicken house system on a land owned by Boundoukoye, a women’s group operating in the village of Bangou Banda. The Agency also provided 1100 laying hens, chicken feed, vaccines, medications, and complementary equipment. Female farmers from Bangou Banda who produce eggs and raise chickens individually stated that the poultry farm would significantly increase their production capacity.

The cooperation between Türkiye and Niger should continue in every field

The opening ceremony held for the poultry farm was attended by Özgür Çınar, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Niamey; İrfan Pamuk, TİKA’s Coordinator in Niamey; Abdou Hassane, Mayor of Liboré; Assoumana Alzouma, Head of the Commune of Libore; and Turkish students who visited Niger under the Experience Sharing Program 2022. The guests who delivered speeches at the ceremony noted that the cooperation between Türkiye and Niger should continue and improve in every field.

The project aims to contribute to the social and economic empowerment of Nigerien female farmers, increase employment in the region, and diversify animal husbandry in Niger.
