TİKA Supports a Girls’ Orphanage in Lebanon

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) built a gym and events hall in a girls’ orphanage in Tripoli, Lebanon.

Run by the Women’s Islamic Orphanage Association, which was founded nearly 100 years ago, the orphanage has been active since 1955. It hosts nearly 150 girls aged 3 to 14 and also has a primary school with 125 students.

After completing the renovation of the idle gym in the orphanage, TİKA provided various pieces of equipment including sports and educational materials.

The hall was equipped with sports materials and transformed into a multi-purpose hall that will host various sports activities and games and contribute to children’s mental development.

The opening ceremony held for the gym was attended by Ali Barış Ulusoy, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Beirut; Orhan Aydın, TİKA’s Coordinator in Beirut; and the officials of the orphanage.

In her speech at the opening ceremony, Hasiba Alamuddin, the principal of the orphanage, noted that the support provided for their center in Tripoli, which has many common historical and cultural values with Türkiye, is very meaningful as Lebanon is facing an economic crisis. Alamuddin thanked Türkiye, stating that the project would make a significant contribution to children’s mental and physical development.
