TİKA's Support to the Care Center for the Elderly in the Sarajevo Canton

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided antibacterial mattresses and textile products for the Care Center for the Elderly in the Sarajevo Canton which provides shelter and healthcare services for 370 senior citizens in the capital Sarajevo.

The Care Center for the Elderly in the Sarajevo Canton, which has been acting as a public institution since 1952, provides accommodation, shelter, healthcare services and social events for the needy senior citizens. A total of 370 senior citizens live at the center with 116 employees, for which the resources are provided from the budget of the Sarajevo Canton.

The center includes single, double or even larger rooms depending on the medical conditions of the residents, as well as common rooms and event rooms where the senior citizens can socialize.

In order to supply healthier and higher quality accommodation for the elderly and the disabled, TİKA provided antibacterial mattresses and textile products for the center.

In her speech at the handover ceremony, Melisa Alibaşiç Hadziç, the Director of the Center, stated that citizens over 65 living at the care centers were the most vulnerable group against the COVID-19 infection and other negative effects. Having stated that they saw the senior citizens at the center as guests and that they did all they could to provide services in a healthy and peaceful environment, Hadziç thanked the people of Turkey, expressing his satisfaction for the rapid procurement of the required equipment.

In his statement, TİKA’s Sarajevo Coordinator Muhammed Ünal expressed his delight for providing support for the center, which has a special place due to its mission and services. Ünal stated that this project was meaningful for protecting the elderly and their wellbeing, especially for the people over 65 when certain physiological, social and psychological changes and disorders occur.
