TİKA's Support for Orphans in Afghanistan Continues

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided orphans and children living on the streets in Herat, Afghanistan with clothing, cleaning tools and food.

After the Herat Directorate for Labor and Social Affairs had placed children living on the streets in orphanages due to cold weather conditions, TİKA delivered basic care and essential needs to 300 children.

Herat Provincial Director of Labor and Social Affairs Mirza Muhammed Ebumensur, who attended the delivery ceremony, said, “Until now, such a comprehensive aid has not been given to orphans and children living on the streets. Thanks to TİKA, these supplies will meet the needs of orphans for 2 years. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Republic of Türkiye and TİKA.”

Halit Şefik, Director of Orphanages, expressed his gratitude for the support consisting of clothing, cleaning, food and fuel, emphasizing that TİKA always helps orphans.

TİKA Herat Coordinator Arafat Deniz also stated that TİKA always stands by the orphans, who are among the most disadvantaged groups. He noted that the Herat Provincial Directorate for Labor and Social Affairs motivated them to gather children living on the streets in the winter and place them in orphanages, and that they provided extensive assistance to both orphans and children living in the streets.

Muhsin, who is 15 years old and lived on the street before, said, “I had no place to stay and clothes to wear, I was always hungry because I did not have a family, but now I am happy.” He expressed his feelings with his words.
