TİKA Renovated the Oldest Mosque in Niger

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) renovated and equipped the Grand Marche Mosque in Niger.

The Grand Marche Mosque, which is the oldest and second-largest mosque in Niamey, the capital of Niger, was opened for prayer with a ceremony after being renovated and equipped by TİKA.

The ceremony was attended by M. Türker Arı, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Niamey; Cheikh Djibril Soumaila Karanta, President of the Islamic Association of Niger; imams of the mosque; and many congregation members.

An industrial vacuum cleaner and a generator, which will reduce the impact of power cuts, were also provided as part of the project. The dome, walls, and doors of the mosque were renovated and painted. Desks and chairs were provided for the imam’s office and the security cabin after the renovation and painting of these spaces.

Furthermore, an area of 400 sq. meters was converted into an indoor space and equipped with fans for children to study the Qur’an in a cool and clean environment.
