TİKA Provides Ramadan Food Aid to 1000 Families in Gambia

Distribution of 1000 food parcels to needy families in The Gambia by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA)

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) through its Coordination Office in the Gambia, extended a helping hand to needy communities in the Gambia in this holy month of Ramadan. The support provided by TIKA comes in the form of 1000 food parcels to 1000 needy families. Each food parcel contains 25kg rice, 5lt cooking oil, 5kg sugar, 2.5kg pasta, 1kg dates and a tea box.

The food distribution exercise in the Gambia started with the handing over of 400 food parcels to the foundation of the First Lady of the Gambia called Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow Foundation for onward distribution to needy communities. This is a foundation which provides support to the less privileged in society. The handing over ceremony was held at the State House and in attendance was the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Gambia Mr. İsmail Sefa Yüceer, the First Lady of the Republic of the Gambia Fatoumatta Bah Barrow and the TIKA Resident Representative Mr. Mehmet Akif Eyigün.

Another 200 food parcels were distributed to needy families in collaboration with the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council. The remaining food parcels were distributed to needy families in the North Bank Region of the Gambia. The distribution was done in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of the Region. The villages in the region that benefited from the gesture are Essau, Jurunku, Kerr Jarga, Kinteh Kunda, Njaba Kunda, Illiassa and Ngayen Sanjal.

The beneficiary communities expressed their joy and thanked TIKA for its generosity. They also offered their prayers to the Republic of Turkey.
