TİKA Provides Equipment to Chilean Firefighters

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided firefighter clothing, gloves, and knitted helmet liners to 37 Chilean firefighters working in the Turkey-Chile Friendship Fire Department, which works on a voluntary basis in Quilicura, Santiago.

Juan Carrasco Contreras, Mayor of Quilicura, and the personnel of the Friendship Fire Department and the Turkish Embassy in Santiago attended the ceremony held for the delivery of the equipment to the Turkey-Chile Friendship Fire Department, which has been supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Santiago since 2013 and works on a voluntary basis in Quilicura, Santiago.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mayor Carrasco thanked the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Santiago and TİKA for their support for the fire department, which fights all kinds of disasters, especially forest fires, and works on a voluntary basis.

Gülcan Akoğuz, Ambassador of Turkey to Santiago, delivered a speech at the ceremony and remarked how happy she was that there is a fire department in Chile named after Turkey. Noting that a fire truck was also delivered to the Quilicura Fire Department in 2017 with the help of TİKA as a sign of solidarity and cooperation between Turkey and Chile, Akoğuz said that she hoped the project would contribute to the safety of firefighters.
