TİKA Opened Special Classes for the Education of Children with Disabilities in Syria

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) opened special classes for children with physical developmental disabilities to acquire and develop certain skills in Azaz in northern Syria.

TİKA opened two classes for physical support and rehabilitation at Ali ibn Abi Talib Primary School, located in the district center of Azaz in Syria across Kilis, in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of National Education of Kilis.

Students with physical disabilities, developmental delays, muscular diseases, or Down syndrome will receive free education in these classes, which are specially prepared by specialists.

TİKA also opened a paint and hygiene production workshop called “Workshops’ Street” in Akhtarin, located in Azaz.

Paints and hygiene products produced in the workshop, which was established in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of National Education of Kilis, was put into service for local people free of charge.

The opening ceremonies were attended by Kamil Kolabaş, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism; Mehmet Emin Akkurt, Provincial Director of National Education of Kilis; representatives of TİKA and non-governmental organizations; and prominent local figures.

Speaking to an AA reporter, Kamil Kolabaş, Advisor to the Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism, said, “As TİKA, we put a class for children with disabilities, and an art street into service in Azaz and Akhtarin, respectively. We do not only provide services to people with disabilities, but also produce paints and hygiene products for local people.”
