TIKA Offers Education Support to South Sudan

Two new classrooms were built by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) for the Nil Model School located in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.

TIKA continues to add new projects to the ones it carries out in various locations. Two new classrooms were built by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), which has carried out significant education-oriented projects, for the Nil Model School located in Juba, the capital of South Sudan. TIKA officially launched the project during a ceremony.  The ceremony was attended by Turkey’s Ambassador to Juba Hasan Sevilir Aşan, the Minister of Education of Jubek State Wani Sule, the Deputy Governor of Jubek State Fransic Latio, TIKA’s Juba Coordinator Yahya Acu, teachers, and students.

During his speech at the ceremony, Turkey’s Ambassador to Juba Hasan Sevilir Aşan expressed that he hopes the school represents a good example of the ties between the two countries. The Minister of Education of Jubek State Wani Sule stated that the new classrooms would contribute greatly to the education of the students and said, “If you have friends, they come in times like this; when we’re in the middle of a crisis, they offer such support.”

The Deputy Governor of Jubek State Fransic Latio expressed that education is the most important strength of each nation and said, “We are in need of great assistance in the field of education.”

The Two New Classrooms were Constructed in 4 Weeks

TIKA’s Juba Coordinator Yahya Acu stated that they immediately initiated the construction process due to the excessive crowding in the classrooms and mentioned they were pleased to gift students two new classrooms in just four weeks.

Seventy-five percent of children are unable to attend school in South Sudan, 4 million people have been displaced due to internal conflict, and seventy-five percent of adults are illiterate.  According to a report by the Institute of International Development, only a small portion of the country’s population has received primary school education.
