TİKA Equips Vocational Training Workshops in Peru

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided the necessary materials, equipment, and machinery for the vocational training programs in the fields of bakery goods, pastry, and digital printing conducted by the Islamic Association of Piura for low-income and unemployed young people in the city of Piura in Peru.

Piura has high rates of malnutrition, child labor, school dropout, and poverty. The Islamic Association of Piura establishes vocational skill development workshops for young people and low-income individuals in the city and provides income-generating opportunities for local people. The Association provides vocational training for nearly 15 young people in the pastry and digital printing workshops every 3 months.

The Directorate of Religious Affairs implements several projects in cooperation with the Islamic Association of Piura. Mehmet Biçer, Representative of the Directorate in Peru, stressed the importance of supporting these workshops, which were established as a result of joint efforts. He said, “This project makes a significant contribution to the development of the region and the employment of young people.”

Theoretical and applied training is provided in the printing workshop. Young people in the city will generate income by producing t-shirts, glasses, pens, hats, and many other products using digital design and transfer printing machines with the support of TİKA.

Furthermore, trainees will learn how to bake different types of cake and dessert in the pastry workshop, which will provide sustainable production opportunities in the region. Moreover, the income from the sales of the goods baked during training courses will help young entrepreneurs to generate the necessary capital to start their own businesses.
