TİKA Continues to Support the Development of Beekeeping in Montenegro

The “Beekeeping Training” Program was conducted by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey, Ordu Apiculture Research Institute, and the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Montenegro (SPOCG) in the municipalities of Budva, Rožaje, Petnjica, Bar, and Danilovgrad in Montenegro.

Specialists from Ordu Apiculture Research Institute trained a total of 97 beekeepers from the cities of Budva, Rožaje, Petnjica, Bar, and Danilovgrad on veterinary services to keep bees healthy and beekeeping technologies in order to share our country’s experience in and knowledge of beekeeping with Montenegrin farmers.

As part of the training, Yusif Guliyev, Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Mountain Beekeepers Association, shared the experience gained during TİKA’s “Honey Packaging Facility Project” in Azerbaijan with Montenegrin beekeepers.

In his speech at the certificate presentation ceremony held in Danilovgrad on the last day of the training, Vladimir Radulović, Secretary-General of the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Montenegro, stated that the project launched by TİKA was a great incentive for the members of the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Montenegro and that they hoped the project would continue.

Abdurrahman S. Toprak, TİKA’s Montenegro Coordinator, also delivered a speech and said that TİKA attached importance to projects that increase employment in agriculture, as in other fields. Adding that they were very pleased with the success of the Project for the Development of Beekeeping in Montenegro, Toprak thanked the officials of the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Montenegro for their cooperation and noted that they would continue to support sustainable agriculture projects.

As part of the “Project for the Development of Beekeeping in Montenegro,” launched by TİKA in 2017, beehives and equipment were provided to 65 families. This June, TİKA provided 30 young beekeepers with a “Starter Support Package,” which includes 3 beehives with bees and the necessary equipment, within the scope of the ongoing project.

TİKA has been operating in Montenegro since 2007 and has supported more than 2000 farmers through its agricultural projects. Another training program will be conducted for olive and olive oil producers as part of the training activities in the agricultural sector.
