TİKA Continues to Stand by Rohingya Muslims

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) continues to deliver food, cleaning, health, education assistance to Rohingya Muslims in the world's largest camp in Cox’s Bazaar region of Bangladesh.

TİKA, which has been continuing its field activities since the beginning of the crisis, is trying to make life easier for refugees in coordination with other assistance organizations. Hot meal distribution, which started after First Lady Emine Erdoğan's visit to refugee camps, has been continuing for more than a year.

TİKA provided hot meals for around 10 million people, dry food packages for 250 thousand people, hygiene packages for 100 thousand people, Ramadan packages for 50 thousand people, blankets for 50 thousand people, solar panels and lighting units for 1500 houses, fuel allowance for 1000 families, kitchen utensils for 25 thousand families. In addition, food packages were distributed to 50 thousand people affected by the floods in the region. Food assistance were also provided for 30 thousand local people living in the area where Rohingya Muslims settled.

30 schools were completed under the cooperation of TİKA and UNICEF. The number of schools is planned to reach 100 in the following days. Besides, around 5,000 children are trying to keep away from the stress of the camp site in the playground built in the region.

6 ambulances were provided for health facilities within the camp site including the field hospitals established by Turkey and the construction of the steel bridge on Modhu Chara Channel in Kutupalong expansion area where the majority of Rohingya Muslims are placed continues.

According to the census made by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Bangladesh Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC), as of August 31, 2018, there are 891,878 Rohingya Muslims in Bangladesh including 33,956 registered and 857,922 counted. 55 percent of this population consist of children.
