TİKA Built an Art Workshop in the Region Where Operation Euphrates Shield Was Conducted

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) built an art workshop to train young people on paper marbling, calligraphy, illumination, and painting in Mare and nearby regions, where Operation Euphrates Shield was conducted.

As part of the project implemented by TİKA for young people in Mare and nearby regions, Turkish and Syrian instructors will train talented young people on paper marbling, calligraphy, illumination, and painting at the workshop. The workshop will support the rehabilitation and art education of young people and will benefit a total of 400 young people every year. The sales of works will ensure the continuity of the program.

Many civilizations had lived in Aleppo and Damascus for many centuries because of the historic fabric of Syria. These civilizations left behind their lifestyles as cultural heritage. The people of Syria inherited calligraphy and paper marbling from the Ottoman Empire, handcrafting and jewelry-making from the Armenians, and carpentry and stonemasonry from other civilizations who had lived in the region in the past.

The project implemented by TİKA for the establishment of a calligraphy and painting workshop aims to keep alive the ancient art of calligraphy.
