TİKA Built a Women’s Empowerment Center in Pakistan

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) built a Women’s Empowerment Center in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

As part of the project, which was held in cooperation with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal, a Women’s Empowerment Center to hold vocational training courses on fashion design, sewing-embroidery, and basic and advanced computer skills for widows, orphans, and women in poverty was inaugurated. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Shazia Marri, Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Security of Pakistan; İhsan Mustafa Yurdakul, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Islamabad; Muhsin Balcı, TİKA’s Coordinator in Islamabad; and many invitees.

In her speech, Shazia Marri, Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Security of Pakistan, thanked Türkiye and TİKA, pointed out that there were strong cultural, historical, and religious ties between the two countries, and stated that they were proud of these ties.

İhsan Mustafa Yurdakul, the Republic of Türkiye’s Ambassador to Islamabad, noted that they signed a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal on March 8, which is celebrated as International Women's Day, for the renovation of the Women's Empowerment Center and the donation of the materials to be used there. Yurdakul said he was happy that the project was completed in only 3 months. He stressed that the building was modern and suitable to support women’s livelihood. He thanked Pakistani authorities for their support for women’s empowerment in social life.

Vocational training is provided for women on many subjects such as fashion design, embroidery, and basic and advanced computer skills in 160 Women’s Empowerment Centers across Pakistan. TİKA renovated the Women’s Empowerment Center it built in Islamabad and donated many pieces of equipment such as sewing, overlocking, ironing, and picot stitching machines, computers, and printers.

TİKA had signed a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal on March 8 for the renovation of the Women’s Empowerment Center and the donation of the materials to be used there.
