TİKA’s Ramadan Programs Continue in Somalia

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed food parcels to 1000 families who are in need and live in difficult circumstances in Galkayo, Galmudug State, on the occasion of Ramadan.

TİKA distributed food parcels containing 40 tonnes of food items, including flour, sugar, oil, rice, pasta, tea, and dates, to 1000 families who are in need and live in difficult circumstances as they have been severely affected by drought in Galkayo, Galmudug State, on the occasion of Ramadan.

The food parcels were delivered to the beneficiaries with a ceremony. The ceremony was attended by Abdirahman Sheikh Hassan, Mayor of Galkayo; Ahmed Abdi, Director of Disaster Management of Galmudug State; Mohamed Abdullahi, Governor of Galkayo; İlhami Turus, TİKA’s Coordinator in Mogadishu; and local press members.

In his speech at the delivery ceremony, İlhami Turus, TİKA’s Coordinator in Mogadishu, stated that Türkiye extended its helping hand all over the world and shared the burden of the oppressed through TİKA. He added that they would stand in solidarity with Somalia, a sister country, during its struggle with drought and at all other times.

Abdirahman Sheikh Hassan, Mayor of Galkayo, thanked TİKA for being there for them and responding to their calls for support at all times, and said that they were grateful to the people and government of Türkiye, which is a sister country, for their support.

Somalia has been struggling with severe drought for the last two years, and the Federal State of Galmudug is among the regions most affected by this problem.
