The Service Capacity Of Emergency Rooms In Fiji Will Be Expanded

In scope of developing mutual cooperation with Fiji, Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency reached an agreement with Fiji Ministry of Health on providing equipment support for expanding the service capacity of emergency rooms nationwide.

Head of TIKA East and South Asia, Pacific and Latin America Department Barbaros Akçakaya and accompanying delegation who were visiting the country in order participate in Development Partners Meeting of the Pacific Island Countries which was held in Fiji’s capital Suva, negotiated with relevant ministries in order to improve mutual cooperation with Fiji. An agreement was made with Fiji Ministry of Health on providing equipment support for expanding the service capacity of emergency rooms nationwide according to Fiji Ministry of Health’s demand.

TIKA delegation evaluated possibilities for developing bilateral relations between two countries by negotiating with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Fiji in Suva. Stating that they consider Turkey as an important potential development partner, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials further expressed that they desire to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Turkey on this field. Meeting with Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Trade as well as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, TIKA delegation exchanged opinions regarding possible cooperation areas by assessing national and sectorial development priorities.

As a result of these negotiations, an agreement was reached for co-operation with Fiji to focus on the health sector in the short term. It is considered to donate ECG and life functions monitoring devices to the emergency rooms nationwide as the first step of the cooperation for health sector. Thus, it will be possible for the emergency services that are unable to meet the needs of the island’s growing population to serve more patients.

The projects executive officer of Ministry of Health of Fiji, Planning and Development Policies Manager Ratish Singh stated that the aid has met a crucial need and will strengthen ties of brotherhood between the two countries. The cooperation on health sector with Fiji is planned to be resumed with equipment support and capacity-building operations in the future period.
