The Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) offered equipment support to a Nursing Home in Brazil.
TİKA officials visited the nursing home operated by the Instituto Integridade (Integration Institute) under the State Secretariat of Social Development and Income Transfer (SEDEST).
The Nursing Home operated by the Institute is located on land donated by the State of Brazil and was opened on March 7, 1980; each block contains 18 rooms, and services are provided in 3 blocks which have a total capacity of 96 people. Following the applications that must be evaluated and approved by the State Secretariat of Social Development and Income Transfer, elderly people above the age of 60, who have no income or only receive a monthly pension (which amounts to seventy percent of the minimum wage), who have no friends or family, and who are homeless, sick and in need of care, may reside in the Nursing Home for the rest of their lives.
Moreover, following applications that must be evaluated and approved by the Brazilian Secretariat of Education, children aged between 4 months and 4 years of financially distressed families, who live off of minimum wage or have no income at all, are also allowed to attend daycare free of charge. The center has 230 staffed and voluntary personnel in total, and there are also volunteer health professionals, nurses, doctors, and physiotherapy experts who regularly provide services.
TİKA provided restoration and equipment support to the Nursing Home. TİKA officially launched the project with a ceremony. The ceremony was attended by R.T. Ambassador to Brazil Ali Kaya Savut along with TİKA and Institute officials. In the ceremony, which was attended by 90 residents of the nursing home as well as staff members, the officials extended their gratitude to TİKA for implementing this a project.
