Emine Erdoğan Inaugurated Omar bin Khattab School in Gambia

Accompanying President Erdoğan during his visit to Gambia, Emine Erdoğan inaugurated Kembujae Madina Village Mosque and Omar bin Khattab School, which were renovated and equipped by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), and received information about TİKA’s assistance.

In her speech at the inauguration ceremony, Emine Erdoğan stated that reciprocal visits will strengthen the friendship between the two countries, and said, “I am happy to inaugurate this beautiful mosque and this school, which were renovated by TİKA, our country’s friendly hand. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to this project. I am confident that the seeds we plant today will sprout for the future of Gambia.” Stressing that the investments in youth and education are the most profitable investments, Emine Erdoğan noted that the school, which provides education in English and Arabic, will be a source of hope for the future of many Gambian children. Erdoğan said, “These houses of science will shape Africa’s future. I hope the students at this school will be the heroes of their own stories. As the Turkish people and government, we are always friends with the beautiful people of Africa. The bridges of solidarity that we build bring us together on the common ground of humanity. The 21^st century can be completely different for Africa. We all have a part to play in this project. The first step is education. I hope Africa will rise from its ashes and rebuild itself with its natural riches, cultural heritage, and special people.”

Accompanied by Gambian First Lady Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, Erdoğan toured the classrooms and visited the Turkish Maarif Foundation School. Hülya Çavuşoğlu, the wife of Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, and Şule Akar, the wife of Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, also accompanied Emine Erdoğan during her visits.
