Assistance for Education in Crimea

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) repairs the water and sewer system for Kotelnikovo General Education School in Kotelnikovo village of Krasnogvardeyskoye Region, Crimea.

A multitude of ethnicities including Ukrainians, Russians, Crimean Tartars, Belorussians and Moldovans live in harmony in Kotelnikovo village of Krasnogvardeyskoye Region. While the repair works for the school in which more than 100 children were trained were undertaken by limited funds raised by village residents, it was simply impossible due to lack of funds to provide the children with decent education. TIKA undertook a project to repair by replacing the internal pipelines of the water and sewer system for the school which was not repaired for 30 years, giving a modest upgrade to education quality in the school.

TIKA had implemented many projects in Belogorsk Region, this time replacing the doors and windows of the General Education School in Melnichnoye village.

The doors and windows of the General Education School built in 1968 in Melnichnoye village were worn down, making impossible to heat the interior to the standard temperature levels, thus increasing the risk of children getting ill. Informed and requested by the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Crimea Autonomous Republic, TIKA immediately took action to replace the doors and windows.

TIKA’s projects to date in Belogorsk Region where Crimean Tartars were in majority included the following: construction of an annex building to Zuya No. 2 General Education School in the context of project to support Ukrainian Education Infrastructure; repair and renovation of Belogorsk Sevinç Preschool; equipping of 3 preschools in Belogorsk; and provision of drinking water to 3 villages in cooperation with the Crimean Integration and Development Programme (CIDP).
