An Event Called “Meeting of Poets of the Turkic World” Was Held in Uzbekistan

The "Meeting of Poets of the Turkic World" was held in Khiva, Uzbekistan, on October 12-15 2021, in cooperation with the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TÜRKSOY) and Uzbekistan's Khorezm Governorate.

Events to celebrate the declaration of the city of Khiva, the pearl of Uzbekistan, one of the ancient cities of Central Asia, as the 2020 Turkic World Capital of Culture, were postponed to this year due to the coronavirus pandemic. Poets from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, North Macedonia, host Uzbekistan, the Russian Yakutia and the Republic of Bashkortostan participated in the “Meeting of Poets of the Turkic World”.

Organized by TİKA, TÜRKSOY and Uzbekistan's Harezm Governorate, this year's meeting, held on October 12-15 2021, was dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the death of the great Turkish poet Yunus Emre.

Famous poets of the Turkish world, who came to the country to attend the Meeting of Poets of the Turkish World, were greeted with a ceremony at Ürgenç Airport. On the first day of the meeting, the poets visited the famous Uzbek poet Agahi's museum and the school bearing his name in Khiva.

Afterwards, the participants visited the "Ichan Castle" historical complex in Khiva, then the Harezm Mamun Academy, Kamilcan Ataniyazov Museum, Khwarezm Authority Art Center, the "Great Courtyard" historical complex and the Khwarezm theater. The poets also went to Ürgenç State University and met with students and lecturers.

On September 16 2021, Bursa, which was the capital of Ottoman state, fascinates the visitors with its historical buildings, its natural and architectural beauties, became the 2022 Turkish World Capital of Culture with the decision made at the 38th Term Meeting of the Permanent Council of Ministers of Culture of TÜRKSOY, attended by the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey Mehmet Nuri Ersoy. For this reason, the annual Turkish World Capital of Culture program is planned to be held in our country next year.
