Türkiye Shares Its Medical Experiences with Kazakhstan

Turkish doctors, who had gone to Kazakhstan with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), achieved a closed muscle transplant surgery that has never been done before in the country.

Turkish doctors shared their experiences with their Kazakh colleagues at the international conference themed “Innovation in Traumatology and Orthopedics”, held at Astana Medical University in the capital, Astana, and hosted by the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan with contributions from TİKA.

Turkish doctors under the presidency of Prof. Dr. Ulunay Kanatlı from the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the Faculty of Medicine at Gazi University achieved a closed muscle transplant surgery that has never been done before in the country.

During the surgery, Kanatlı gave detailed information on the muscle transplant with closed technique to Kazakh doctors.

“Apparently, they liked it a lot and found it educative”

Following the successful operation, Prof. Dr. Kanatlı stated that they use a different method in this field and that the closed surgery has developed significantly.

Kanatlı said, “They (Kazakhstan) asked us to share our experiences in muscle transplant conducted in closed surgery technique. We tried to demonstrate how we transfer the muscle and implant it with a closed technique. “At the moment, from the impressions we get, apparently they liked it a lot and found it educative.”

“We are interested in extensive cooperation in scientific matters too”

Yerik Raymagambetov, the Head of the Department of Orthopedics of the National Traumatology and Orthopedics Research Institute, indicated that the shoulder joint pathology is one of the most common diseases and said, “Prof. Dr. Ulunay Kanatlı is a world-renowned doctor. We have already invited him to an experience sharing meeting to be organized next year in May.”

Mentioning that they are planning to sign a memorandum of understanding with Gazi University, Raymagambetov said, “We are interested not only in the surgical field but in extensive cooperation in scientific matters too.”
