TİKA Educates: Fire and Rescue Team Training in Bangladesh

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided Basic Firefighting and CBRN Incident Response Training to the fire and rescue service team of Bangladesh as part of the Emergency and Disaster Response Training Program (ADAMEP) held in Dhaka, the capital city.

A total of 30 firefighters and rescue team members from different parts of Bangladesh participated in the “Basic Firefighting and CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, Nuclear) Incident Response Training,” held by TİKA in cooperation with the CBRN Defense and Security Brigade Command of the Ministry of National Defense, the Fire Department of Konya Metropolitan Municipality, and Fire Service and Civil Defense Training Center of Bangladesh.

Theoretical and Applied Training Was Provided

Ramis Şen, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Dhaka; Brigadier General Muhammad Main Uddin, the Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense of Bangladesh; Şevki Mert Barış, TİKA’s Program Coordinator in Dhaka; Latif Erdoğan, the Chief of the Fire Department of Konya Metropolitan Municipality; Lieutenant Commander Ali Çobanoğlu, the trainer of the CBRN Defense and Security Brigade Command; and authorities of Bangladesh attended the opening ceremony of the training.

Speaking at the ceremony, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Dhaka, Ramis Şen drew attention to the increasing cooperation areas between Bangladesh and Türkiye.

Brigadier General Muhammad Main Uddin, the Director General of the Fire Service and Civil Defense of Bangladesh, started his speech by commemorating the victims of the earthquake that hit our country on February 6, 2023. Uddin highlighted the rooted fellowship between Bangladesh and Türkiye and expressed his appreciation for this growing fellowship.

During the 7-day training program, the participants were given theoretical and applied training on fire response, urban search and rescue, response to traffic accidents, CBRN and international disaster management, and crime scene investigation. At the end of the training, an exercise was conducted under the supervision of expert instructors. Staying in Bangladesh throughout the training, the committee paid inspection visits to fire departments.

Certificates Were Presented at a Ceremony

30 firefighters of Bangladesh, who successfully completed the theoretical and applied training, were given certificates at a ceremony held in the capital city, Dhaka. The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Dhaka, TİKA’s Coordination Office representatives, training committee, and authorities from the Fire Department of Bangladesh attended the certification ceremony.

The ADAMEP-Basic Firefighting Training aims to reduce the loss of life and property arising from the chemical based fires breaking out at factories, especially in textile sector, in Bangladesh and the ADAMEP-CBRN Incident Response Module aims to increase the capacity of the responses against possible chemical, radioactive, and nuclear leakages at the nuclear plant to be activated next year.
