Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided staples and cleaning supplies to 300 families in need in the districts of Karabuško Polje and Šipčanik in Tuzi Municipality of Montenegro, to combat the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
The Government of Montenegro takes strict measures against the novel coronavirus, which affects the entire world and has turned into a pandemic in a short time.
Strengthening the immune system, performing good personal hygiene, and keeping our living spaces clean are the main personal measures to be taken to protect ourselves against the outbreak, which was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
Due to the rapid increase in the number of positive cases in Tuzi Municipality, which is the youngest municipality in Montenegro, a state of emergency has been declared, and families are quarantined for 24 hours.
In the districts of Karabuško Polje and Šipčanik in Tuzi Municipality, which are heavily populated by Bosniaks and Albanians, staples and cleaning supplies were provided to a total of 300 families, especially to disadvantaged groups (the elderly and people with disabilities) who are unable to go outside due to the strict measures taken across the country and the rapid spread of the disease.
The parcels containing staples and cleaning supplies were delivered to the houses of those in need in cooperation with the Zakat Foundation, which is under the responsibility of the Islamic Community of Montenegro.
Approximately 1,500 people who benefited from the project stated that Turkey did not forget them during these difficult times, and expressed their gratitude to Turkey and TİKA.
Montenegrins also said that Turkey provided a very important support to Montenegro with the masks, coveralls, and rapid test kits which were sent upon the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to combat the COVID-19 outbreak and that as a nation, they would never forget this assistance.
