16 July 2021TİKA Supports Municipal Work in Montenegro
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided a waste collection truck to Tuzi Municipality in Montenegro.
As part of another project it implemented in Montenegro to protect public health and ensure environmental cleanliness, TİKA delivered a waste collection truck with a capacity of 15 cubic meters, provided by Turkey, to Tuzi Municipality, which provided waste collection services with vehicles owned by neighboring municipalities.
The delivery ceremony held at the town hall of Tuzi Municipality was attended by Songül Ozan, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Podgorica; Nik Gjeloshaj, Mayor of Tuzi Municipality; Fadil Kajoshaj, Speaker of the Municipal Council of Tuzi Municipality; and Abdurrahman S. Toprak, TİKA’s Montenegro Coordinator.
In his speech at the delivery ceremony, Nik Gjeloshaj, Mayor of Tuzi Municipality, thanked TİKA for the projects it implemented in the fields of health and education in Tuzi, and stated that he was happy with the vehicle delivered. Gjeloshaj added that the support provided further strengthened the ties between the government and people of Turkey and the people of Tuzi.
Songül Ozan, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Podgorica, stressed the importance of Tuzi Municipality for Turkey and said she was happy that TİKA has implemented another project in Tuzi. Ozan congratulated TİKA for its contribution to the cleaning works of the municipality and stated that she hoped the cooperation would continue.
In his speech, Abdurrahman S. Toprak, TİKA’s Podgorica Program Coordinator, expressed his hope that the first waste collection vehicle of Tuzi Municipality would be useful, and underlined that TİKA was ready to support the training of the municipality’s human resources.
Tuzi is located a few kilometers north of Lake Shkodër, near the Albanian border. Tuzi, which was previously a district of Podgorica, the capital, became a municipality in 2018.
TİKA has supported the development of Montenegro with more than 400 projects it has implemented in the country since 2007 in many fields, including education, agriculture, culture, and health. The projects implemented by the Agency with local governments, which are among the important stakeholders of development activities, contribute to increasing the human and physical capacity of local governments and improving the quality of service offered to local people.
