23 June 2022Educational Support from TİKA to Tanzanian and Azerbaijani Health Workers
Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) helped to organize the Healthcare Services Training Program, and the Tanzanian and Azerbaijani health workers who successfully completed the training were given certificates.
TİKA conducted two trainings: Surgical Training Program and Health Administration Training within the scope of Healthcare Services Training Program. Six Tanzanian health workers were brought to Türkiye to get an education on bone marrow transplant within the scope of the former program, whereas 15 Azerbaijani specialists received the training on health administration. The participants of both countries were presented certificates at a joint ceremony. The six Tanzanian health workers, who received a training on bone marrow transplant, work in Muhimbili State Hospital, Tanzania’s biggest and most well-equipped hospital. TİKA supports this hospital in various aspects. For example, it had already run projects such as physiotherapy training and sapling planting and helped to renovate and furnish the Children’s Emergency Room.
A two-week training program
Muhimbili State Hospital has just started bone marrow transplant, and they asked to learn from our country’s experience in the field so that they can build their transplant unit correctly. The Haematology Department of Ankara University Faculty of Medicine responded to the demand and prepared a two-week training program. The first part of the training was both theoretical and applied, and it took place in the Haematology Department of the Ankara University Faculty of Medicine on the Cebeci Campus. The second part of the training covered practice and lab training at Therapeutic Apheresis Centre of Ankara University Ibni Sina Hospital. At the end of the training, the Tanzanian health workers who were trained in bone marrow transplant and Azerbaijani health administrators were presented certificates at a joint ceremony.
“As TİKA, we share Türkiye’s achievements and experiences”
The Rector of Ankara University, Prof Necdet Ünüvar, TİKA’s Vice President Dr Rahman Nurdun, the Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ankara, Reşad Memmedov and the Undersecretary of Tanzania’s Ankara Embassy Esha Shuma participated in the ceremony. In addition, Dr Mehmet Güllüoğlu, the Ambassador of Türkiye in Dar es Salaam, Dr Cahit Bağcı, the Ambassador of Türkiye in Baku, Prof Necdet Ünüvar, the Rector of Ankara University and the authorities from Ankara University participated in the ceremony online. Prof Ünüvar, the Rector of Ankara University said he is pleased with the trainings given so far and thanked those who put efforts in them. TİKA’s Vice President, Dr. Nurdun said that as TİKA is sharing Türkiye’s achievements, experiences and practices with brother countries through various projects and working to increase corporate capacity.
“An important investment and experience-sharing in Tanzania for the long run”
The Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ankara, Reşad Memmedov gave a speech at the ceremony and said that he believed both Azerbaijani and Tanzanian health workers who received training in Türkiye will make a significant contribution to the health system in their countries. The Undersecretary of Tanzania’s Ankara Embassy, Shuma emphasized that the training given to Tanzanian doctors is a proof of the improved relations between Türkiye and Tanzania. On this occasion, Shuma thanked those who organized the bone marrow transplant training given to Tanzanian doctors. Dr. Güllüoğlu, the Ambassador of Türkiye in Dar es Salaam, who participated in the meeting online, said that this training is an important investment and experience-sharing in Tanzania for the long run.
After the speeches, Tanzanian doctors and Azerbaijani health administrators who successfully completed the trainings were given certificates. The ceremony ended as the gifts were presented and photos were taken.
