TİKA Contributes to the Development of Girls with Sports Activities in Bangladesh

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) launched the project “Give Me A Chance” to raise awareness about girls and their families living in Moulvibazar and Bagerhat, Bangladesh.

In the project “Give Me A Chance,” launched by TİKA in Bangladesh, football was used as a means to support girls. As a part of the project, a Girls’ Football Tournament was held in Moulvibazar, Sreemangal, located nearly 200 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, on December 29, 2022.

The main purpose of the project is to create a free space for families and girls living in Moulvibazar and Bagerhat, who are mainly engaged with tea cultivation, to express themselves; to overcome prejudices about their participation in sports activities; and to raise awareness about their rights.

The attendees of the event thanked TİKA and the Turkish people for their support. In his speech at the event, Şevki Mert Barış, TİKA’s Coordinator in Bangladesh, thanked girls who participated in the tournament and their families.

Barış noted that he closely observed the great interest of the people of Bangladesh in football during the World Cup. He added that he believed more Bangladeshi people would be interested in football and make football and sports part of their lives, as the women’s national football team won the South Asian Football Federation Women’s Championship in September.
