World White Cane Day in Afghanistan

A special program within the scope of World White Cane  Day was organized in Herat by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Afghanistan’s Welfare and Service Association for Visually Impaired People.

Türkiye’s Consul General to Herat, Sinan İlhan, Provincial Director of Information and Culture of Herat, Mevlevi Neimulhak Hakkani, Head of the Directorate of the Disabled and Martyries, Mevlevi Abdulbari Ahundzade, TİKA’s Herat Coordinator, Arafat Deniz, visually impaired people, and their families participated in the awareness raising program organized within the scope of World Si White Cane Day.   

Türkiye’s Consul General to Herat, İlhan gave a speech during the program and said Türkiye has always sided with disabled people.  

Director of Information and Culture of Herat, Hakkani thanked TİKA and Türkiye for the activities they have carried out in Afghanistan and support they have given.

TİKA’s Herat Coordinator, Arafat Deniz stated that this activity is very meaningful for them and that they are very proud to be a part of this activity.

Deniz said, “We are carrying on projects and activities to support all people in the society, particularly orphans, disabled people, and women. For example, recently we have maintained and repaired the Centre for Women’s Employment and Empowerment and refurbished the Vocational School for the Hearing Impaired. We are planning to provide support to the Vocational School for the Visually Impaired next year.”
