Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided cleaning supplies and hygiene products to Somaliland’s Ministry of Health and Development to be used in 12 state hospitals and 6 temporary hospitals.

Upon the request for emergency assistance of the Somaliland Government and its Ministry of Health and Development, which face great challenges in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, 2400 liters of antiseptic solutions, 4800 liters of bleach, and 1280 liters of hand disinfectants were delivered to authorities to be used in the fight against COVID-19 in 12 state hospitals affiliated with Somaliland’s Ministry of Health and Development, as well as 6 temporary hospitals and similar healthcare facilities.

In his speech at the ceremony, Dr. Omar Ali Abdillahi, Somaliland’s Minister of Health and Development, said, “As you know, countries all around the world are combating the COVID-19 pandemic fiercely, and Somaliland is one of them. I would like to thank the Turkish people and TİKA for providing this support to us when we needed it the most. The cleaning supplies and hygiene products you have provided to us will ensure the success of our fight against COVID-19.”

The Republic of Turkey’s Consul General to Hargeisa Ali Noyan Coşkun said, “The Republic of Turkey stands in solidarity with the people of Somaliland, our sister country. We will continue to support you as much as we can. TİKA delivered this small gift to you on behalf of the Turkish people. I hope the Ministry of Health and Development will do the best they can in combating this pandemic and win this fight.”

Director General of the Ministry of Health and Development Dr. Mohamed Abdi Hargeye said, “These hygiene products will help us win our fight against COVID-19. They will improve hygiene in our hospitals and enable our healthcare providers to treat patients in a clean and hygienic environment. In 2018, TİKA alleviated the shortage of devices in our hospitals by donating medical devices to our ministry. Now, it helps us in our fight against the pandemic. I would like to thank the Turkish people and TİKA.”
