Turkey Shares Its Experience in Agriculture with Uzbekistan

Within the scope of the new projects carried out by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in the field of agriculture in Uzbekistan, a delegation consisting of officials of the State Inspectorate for Quarantine of Plants under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan visited Turkey.

The delegation was headed by İbrohim Ergashev, who is the Head of the State Inspectorate for Quarantine of Plants, and the members visited many institutions to talk about the international status of the phytosanitary system of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Uzbekistan and convey their experiences through educational cooperation.

The delegation held meetings with stakeholder institutions on the safe and sustainable use of plant protection products used in plant production, and also on the licensing, approval and controls of the plant protection products, chemical fertilizers, risk analysis, and laboratory infrastructure.

They also made evaluations of phytosanitary and quarantine issues between these two countries and what can be done in the field of phytosanitary with the General Directorate of Food and Control in Ankara, and they reached a consensus on the steps to be taken. During the visit to the General Directorate of Plant Production, the guest delegation was informed about the current situation of the fertilizer industry in these two countries, the implementation of the legislation, and the examination of the fertilizer tracking system.

During the visit to the General Directorate of Agricultural Research and Policies, the delegation was informed about current studies on pest control, resistance, biological and biotechnical practices, especially R&D activities in viticulture. They also visited National Food Reference Laboratory and Laboratories in Variety Registration and Seed Certification Center.

After being informed about phytosanitary and internal quarantine activities, and making field investigations, Uzbekistani officials received technical information about the processes in fresh vegetable and fruit packaging, seed and sapling production facilities, and pesticide and fertilizer dealers.
