TİKA Volunteers Provide Support for Dental Care Services in Tanzania

The students of dentistry and medicine who went to Tanzania within the scope of the "Experience Sharing Program", which was initiated by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA), are collaborating with and supporting specialists who provide dental and oral health services to the people of the region.

Fourteen students in Morogoro, Tanzania are accompanying specialists that perform dental and oral screenings for local residents who have difficulty accessing health services. During the screenings carried out with the support of the Association of the Friends of Africa (TADD), tooth extractions and atraumatic restorative treatments have been performed. Throughout the five days that will be spent in Morogoro as part of the project, the aim is to complete 2,000 check-ups, perform 400 treatments, provide oral hygiene training to 1,000 students at local elementary schools, and distribute toothbrushes and toothpaste.

Moreover, in the second week of the project, the team will organize a training oriented towards increasing the capacity of Muhimbili Hospital. The aim of the "Experience Sharing Program", which was carried out by TİKA in collaboration with several institutions and NGOs, including Anadolu Agency, the Directorate of Turks Abroad and Related Communities, the Credit and Dormitories Institution, TRT, and the Turkey Youth Foundation, is to raise global awareness with respect to volunteering among university students.
