TİKA Trains Mozambican Meteorology Specialists

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Turkish State Meteorological Service organized 5-day training courses in weather forecast, radar analysis, and weather meteorology for 21 meteorology specialists from the Mozambique National Institute of Meteorology.

Meteorology and weather forecasting are critical due to extreme weather events in Mozambique, where cyclones Idai and Kenneth caused hundreds of deaths and left thousands of people homeless.

TİKA and Turkish State Meteorological Service trained 21 meteorology specialists in order to minimize the negative effects of cyclones in Mozambique.

In his speech at the ceremony, which was also attended by TİKA’s officials, Adérito Aramuge, Director-General of the Mozambique National Institute of Meteorology, said, “It is of great importance for us that such support activities continue. Turkey’s experience will guide us in doing our job better. I would like to thank all of Turkey through TİKA and Turkish State Meteorological Service.”

Alano Pedro Manguissa, Head of Educational Affairs, said, “We hope Turkey will continue to provide support. Thanks to this support, our staff will be trained better and will be able to warn our people more accurately.”

Another cyclone hit Manica, Mozambique, in the past few weeks, causing 9 deaths. The United Nations is concerned that the severity and prevalence of such disasters will increase in Mozambique due to climate change.
