TİKA to Restore Nazo Ana Girls’ High School in Afghanistan

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) restored Nazo Ana Girls’ High School in Celalabad, the capital of the Nangarthar state in Afghanistan.

The building, which has a capacity of more than 5 thousand students with its 12 classrooms, has been restored comprehensively. Besides, 250 desks and hardware equipment have been provided. The building has also been equipped with a projector, a desktop computer, a printer, and an AC so that it can give an education at modern standards.

The opening ceremony was attended by Cihad Erginay, the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye in Kabul, Habib Hazran Hakgani, the Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education in Nangarhar, Ahmet Türkben, a member of the Turkish Maarif Foundation Board of Directors, Salih Sağır, Afghanistan Director, Cengiz Aydemir, the Education Attaché of the Embassy of Turkish Republic, Caner Bozat, the Commerce Attaché, Abdullah Dündar, the Counsellor to the Interior Affairs, Zühtü Çal, TİKA’s Coordinator in Kabul as well as students.

60% of the schools in Afghanistan in poor condition

Ambassador Cihad Erginay gave the opening speech at the ceremony and said, “The only way to development in Afghanistan is education. As Türkiye, we attach great importance to education in Afghanistan, and this is yet another proof of this”.  Hazran Hakgani, the Provincial Director of the Ministry of Education in Nangarhar pointed out the fact that 60% of the school buildings in Afghanistan are in poor condition and cannot be used because of the wars that have been continuing for over 40 years. Hakgani said, “We would like to extend our gratitude to Türkiye and Turkish people for the services they have provided in this country”.  

Education and health to be prioritised

Zühtü Çal, TİKA’s Coordinator in Kabul, took the floor last and indicated that health and education are the busiest fields in Afghanistan. Çal said, “We have built and restored many schools in Afghanistan. We are proud that we have completed one more education project today”.
