TİKA Supports Young Farmers in Montenegro

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided 30 young beekeepers in Montenegro with beekeeping starter kits consisting of 3 beehives and bee colonies, as well as beekeeping suits, protective masks, gloves, and bellows.

TİKA provided 30 young beekeepers, who had been trained on beekeeping in cooperation with the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Montenegro (SPOCG), with beekeeping starter kits consisting of 3 beehives and bee colonies, as well as beekeeping suits, protective masks, gloves, bellows, and beehive scrapers.

The ceremony held for the beekeeping project was attended by Songül Ozan, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Podgorica; Aleksandar Stijović, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Water Management of Montenegro; Radule Miljanić, President of the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Montenegro; and Abdurrahman S. Toprak, TİKA’s Podgorica Coordinator.

President Miljanić thanked Minister Stijović and TİKA for their support and stated that they wished to continue to collaborate with them.

In his speech, Minister Stijović stressed the importance of training for the development of beekeeping in Montenegro. He said that the natural conditions of the country were suitable for organic production and that he believed the cooperation between the ministry and its partners would offer farmers better conditions for production. He thanked TİKA for its continued support.

Turkish Ambassador Ozan noted that TİKA supported farmers through important agricultural activities in various fields such as greenhouse production, fruit production, and olive and olive oil production. He thanked those who were involved in the project for the development of beekeeping and wished young beekeepers success.

TİKA’s agricultural support for Montenegro continues

TİKA has been operating in Montenegro since 2007 and has supported more than 2000 farmers through its agricultural projects. The Agency aims to continue its activities in the field of beekeeping with the training program titled “Bee Health and Protection,” which will be organized in September.

TİKA continues to implement projects to increase the income of families living in rural areas in Montenegro and to contribute to employment as part of its people-oriented development assistance activities. It aims to reduce migration to big cities and increase agricultural production through agricultural development projects.

TİKA provided greenhouses and seeds to promote greenhouse production as part of the “Greenhouse Production Development Project,” launched in 2015. Furthermore, since 2014, it has been providing fruit saplings and equipment to municipalities and agricultural associations to be distributed to farmers in order to support agricultural production. The Agency continues to implement projects that will contribute to sustainable rural development in many parts of Montenegro.
