TİKA Supports Women’s Employment in Lebanon

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Charity Hub built a chocolate production and sales workshop to help women enter a profession in Lebanon.

Operating throughout Lebanon, Charity Hub stands out with its humanitarian aid activities after the explosion at the Port of Beirut, especially home and workplace renovation projects and the donations of food, medications, and hygiene products.

As part of the project implemented by TİKA and Charity Hub, a chocolate production and sales workshop was built to help unemployed women enter a profession, while Lebanon is facing a financial crisis and recorded the highest unemployment rate in its history.

The opening ceremony held for the workshop was attended by Ali Barış Ulusoy, the Republic of Turkey’s Ambassador to Beirut; Orhan Aydın, TİKA’s Coordinator in Beirut; and the officials of Charity Hub.

With the chocolate produced using mostly local ingredients under the brand name “Choco Pundit,” created for the project, it is aimed to contribute to reducing the dependency on imports and providing access to chocolate at affordable prices as the purchasing power dropped to the lowest level in the history of the country.

As part of the project, training sessions were held on the production of different types of chocolate, hygiene, packaging, sales, and marketing. Furthermore, 6 full-time and 2 part-time employees, mostly women, were recruited. The revenue from the sales of the chocolate produced in the workshop is used to fund the humanitarian aid activities of Charity Hub.
