TİKA Supports Tourism Education in Algeria

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts of Algeria held the “Training on Current Approaches to Tourism Education” from March 27 to 31, 2022.

35 specialists working in the field of tourism education at the Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts of Algeria and the Ministry of Vocational Training of Algeria participated in the Training on Current Approaches to Tourism Education, held by TİKA and the Directorate General for Vocational Education, affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye.

During the 5-day training program, which was held in Algeria this time, after Tunisia, the Gambia, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan, several training courses were taught by Prof. Cem Oktay Güzeller, Dean of the Faculty of Tourism in Manavgat at Akdeniz University; Ersümer Eren, Principal of Falez Vocational and Technical High School in Antalya, affiliated with the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Türkiye; and İsa Keleş, the deputy principal of the same school. The courses focused on various topics, including “An Overview of Vocational Training in Tourism in Türkiye,” “Tourism Education Practices in Some European Countries,” “Alternative Tourism,” “Types of Tourism in Türkiye,” “On-the-Job Training Model Implemented in Türkiye,” and “Schools of Tourism and Hospitality Management in Türkiye.”

Certificates were presented to specialists at a ceremony attended by Rachid Bennacer, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism of Algeria; Ümit Alpaslan Kılıç, Undersecretary of the Turkish Embassy in Algiers; and Dr. Alparslan Çevik, TİKA’s Coordinator in Algiers.

The second phase of the project, “Advanced Training of Trainers on Food and Beverage, Accommodation, and Travel Services in Tourism” is planned to be held in Antalya this year.
