TİKA Supports the Repair of a Damaged University Building in Ukraine

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) replaced the windows of the buildings of Taras Shevchenko National University, which are located in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, and were damaged during the war.

Located in the center of Kyiv, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv is one of the longest-established universities in Ukraine. TİKA replaced the windows of the buildings of the university that were damaged during the war.

TİKA renovated the buildings of the Institute of Philology and the Faculty of Chemistry, as well as the main building and library of the university, and replaced the doors in these buildings, which are important historical and architectural monuments for the Ukrainian nation.

Since students were unable to attend online classes due to power outages, the Agency created a suitable environment for face-to-face learning in the Institute of Philology, which houses the Department of Turkic Studies.

The opening ceremony held at the university after the renovation was attended by Yağmur Ahmet Güldere, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Kyiv; Volodymyr Bugrov, Rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv; Cüneyt Esmer, TİKA’s Coordinator in Ukraine; students; journalists; and other guests.

In his speech at the ceremony, Rector Bugrov reminded that the windows of the buildings of the university were damaged during the war. Bugrov thanked the government and people of Türkiye, stating that the windows were replaced with Türkiye’s support before the winter.

Bugrov noted that Türkiye is a true friend. He said, “I would like to thank Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who received an honorary doctorate degree from our university.”

The Agency had previously supported scientific activities and conferences by building the Turkish Information and Research Center, the Crimean Tatar Culture Center, the Turkish and Crimean Tatar History Research Center, the Simultaneous Interpreting Training Laboratory, and a smart classroom at the university.
