TİKA Supports the Development of Animal Husbandry in Uzbekistan

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) provided equipment to the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Development of Animal Husbandry in Uzbekistan to support artificial insemination services.

The project developed by TİKA and the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Development of Animal Husbandry in Uzbekistan included training programs on the identification and registration of animals and animal diseases, movements, and improvement. As a result of the needs analysis, more than 250 specialists were trained in 5 different regions of Uzbekistan as part of the program “Training of Trainers on Artificial Insemination and Pedigree Legislation,” organized in 2020 and 2021.

Due to low productivity, which is a major problem in animal husbandry in Uzbekistan, it is essential to ensure the survival of livestock species, increase their productivity, and carry out improvement activities properly. These problems are also stressed in the strategic plan developed by the Office of President of Uzbekistan for 2021-2024. The plan states that artificial insemination practices should be promoted in Jizzakh, Qashqadaryo, Bukhara, Khorezm, and Karakalpakstan, where animal husbandry is widespread but the productivity is low.

As part of the project, TİKA provided equipment for more than 150 specialists serving in Karakalpakstan in order to strengthen the technical infrastructure of the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Development of Animal Husbandry in Uzbekistan and increase the efficiency of artificial insemination practices. The project included the donation of 90 pieces of equipment supplied from Türkiye, including artificial insemination bags, diffuser tanks, and portable ultrasound scanners.

Nargiza Amanbayeva, Deputy Director of Uzbekchorvanasl Agency, affiliated with the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Development of Animal Husbandry in Uzbekistan, delivered a speech at the delivery ceremony held for the project. She thanked TİKA for the project, stating that the existing livestock will be improved through artificial insemination practices to be carried out using modern equipment.

Cemalettin Tüney, TİKA’s Program Coordinator in Tashkent, noted that the issue is important as it is on the agenda of top government officials due to the needs of the country, and that the equipment will enable the improvement of veterinary services and the development of breeding activities.
