TİKA Supports the Agricultural Development of Georgia

“Georgia Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation” was signed to implement agricultural training projects within the framework of the collaboration between Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) and Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture.

TİKA Tbilisi Coordinator Necla Demirdağ, Head of the National Food Agency of Georgia Zurab Chekurashvili, and other officials attended the signing ceremony, which was held at the headquarters of the National Food Agency of Georgia in Tbilisi. Demirdağ and Chekurashvili signed the “Georgia Memorandum of Understanding on Agricultural Cooperation” and said that the relations between Turkey and Georgia will improve with this cooperation. 

– "Specialists will have access to agricultural training that meets European standards”

In the statement she made to the press after the signing ceremony, Demirdağ said that TİKA’s close cooperation with Georgians continues in many fields in Georgia, including agriculture. Demirdağ stated that Turkish specialists will share Turkey’s wide experience in agriculture with Georgian personnel within the framework of the memorandum of understanding. She added that the specialists who will be trained within the scope of this cooperation will have access to agricultural training that meets European standards. Noting that training courses in various branches will be organized in Ankara, Istanbul, and Bursa within the framework of the “Georgia Agricultural Specialists Training Program” to share Turkey’s experience in agriculture with Georgian personnel, Demirdağ said, “The purpose of the training that will be given to Georgian specialists is to enable certain analyses to be carried out in their country, introduce European standards of production, raise awareness about these standards, and increase their competitiveness both in the domestic and international market.” Demirdağ stated that TİKA implemented 278 projects in 5 continents in the fields of food safety and animal husbandry within the scope of the DAC Classification from 2015 to 2018. She said, “This project is expected to increase the sharing of experience and improve the agricultural cooperation between the two countries. There is a strong cooperation between Turkey and Georgia in the field of agriculture. The mutual exchange of agricultural experience between the two countries is highly important for the agricultural development of the region.” 

Chekurashvili emphasized the positive development of agricultural cooperation with Turkey and said that they will carry out more activities in this direction in the future. The training process began in Turkey and Georgia within the framework of the cooperation between TİKA and the National Food Agency of Georgia.
