TİKA Supports the Afforestation of 5,000 Hectares of Land

Applied and theoretical training was provided to specialists who arrived in Antalya from Uzbekistan as part of the Afforestation Project in Qoqrali in Khorezm Region on the Shores of the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan, supported by Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

The Afforestation Project in Qoqrali in Khorezm Region on the Shores of the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan continued with the applied and theoretical training courses held in Antalya under the protocol for cooperation signed between the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan, TİKA, and the General Directorate of Forestry of Türkiye. As part of the project, ideas were exchanged on reducing the impact of environmental disasters in the Aral Sea Basin and combating desertification and drought. Furthermore, TİKA provided technical support for the afforestation of 5,000 hectares of land on the Amu Darya Delta and the improvement of the infrastructure of the forestry departments in the region.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION WAS PROVIDED

TİKA supported the applied training provided in the greenhouse built on the land on tree planting, containerized nurseries under shade, and the use of an irrigation reservoir. During the training, specialists from Uzbekistan were trained on the purposes of use of the facilities in forest nurseries, the machinery and equipment used in nurseries, soil cultivation and seed planting, containerized tree planting, bare root tree planting, sapling care and proper irrigation methods, challenges in nurseries and methods of fighting diseases, technical procedures regarding the collection and storage of seeds, and the removal, packaging, storage, and transportation of saplings.

A MODERN FOREST NURSERY WILL BE BUILT

The objectives of the Afforestation Project in Qoqrali in Khorezm Region on the Shores of the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan, developed to minimize the impact of the ecological disaster caused by the drying up of the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan, are to restore the forests around the Aralkum Desert and to build a modern forest nursery on a land of 5,000 hectares in the Qoqrali Forest Farm in Khorezm. Türkiye’s knowledge and experience were shared with specialists from Uzbekistan for these purposes.
