TİKA Supports Romania’s Fight against COVID19

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) distributed 1,500 food and hygiene parcels to families with members over the age of 65 and families in need in Romania.

As part of the project launched for disadvantaged groups who were affected the most by the outbreak, parcels containing a total of approximately 17 tons of food and hygiene supplies were delivered to 1500 households that are impoverished or lost their income during this period, especially families with members over the age of 65, to support them in the fight against COVID-19.

Food and hygiene parcels were delivered to the houses of families in Bucharest, in the center of Constanța, and 10 different communes in Constanța, including Fântâna Mare (Başpınar), Independența (Bayramdede), and Cumpăna, in cooperation with the General Directorates of Social Assistance and Child Protection Sector 5 of Constanța and Bucharest, the Office of the Mufti of the Romanian Muslim Community, the Democratic Turkish Union of Romania, and the Democratic Union of Turkish-Muslim Tatars of Romania.

The activities carried out to support the fight against COVID-19 were well-received by low-income families. The mayors of the municipalities that received assistance and the officials of the General Directorates of Social Assistance and Child Protection thanked TİKA for these food and hygiene parcels, which were essential for the elderly and families in need who are unable to leave their houses during this difficult period.

In his written statement, Mufti of the Romanian Muslim Community Murat Yusuf said, “As the Office of the Mufti of the Romanian Muslim Community and the Muslim community in Romania, we are grateful for the support you have provided so far.”

“May Allah bestow His grace on us and the Republic of Turkey, which is our homeland, in the fight against this disease, which spread to the entire world. May Allah not deny His mercy to our noble nation, which has always stood in solidarity with victims, the oppressed, and the poor.”

In her statement, TİKA Coordinator Yasemin Melez Biçer said that TİKA will continue to support Romania, just like it did yesterday and does today.
