TİKA Supports Innovation Empowerment Programme's “One Hen Campaign Project”

TİKA Supports Innovation Empowerment Programme's “One Hen Campaign Project”

With the contribution of Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency, 500 movable cages and three ultra-modern poultry houses were constructed to support the One Hen Campaign Project, which is a programme initiated by Innovation Empowerment Programme (IEP.) It gives a micro-loan in form of a hen and a cage to each member and then one surrenders two chicks (once) to the programme for onward lending to other groups after six months for sustainability of the project.
The immediate beneficiaries of this project are 500 youths and women registered with self-help groups in Narok, Nyamira and Kisii Counties. The beneficiaries are expected to earn a source of income through the sale of eggs and hens, the hens will ensure food security and decrease dependency ratio as every member of the family is economically active. A hen and a cage provide IEP a platform to train members on poultry management, agribusiness, financial management, and other cross-cutting issues.

The opening ceremony for this project was held in Nyamira County in the South Nyanza region in August. TIKA Nairobi Programme Coordinator, Woman Representative of Nyamira County in Kenyan Parliament and IEP executives attended the ceremony. During her speech in the opening ceremony, the women representative offered her gratitude to TIKA for supporting the project and expressed interest in cooperation with Turkey in future projects.
